About Jackie's Place - North

Jackie's Place, a family-owned restaurant established in 2018, brings the taste of Texas soul food and barbecue to Silicon Valley. Led by a woman entrepreneur, Jackie's Place offers familiar recipes passed down through generations, alongside a full bar and live music events.

Located at 840 N First St, San Jose, CA 95112, Jackie's Place - North operates as a chinese bbq serving San Jose in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as bakery, bar, catering food and drink supplier, so it may cover more than the name suggests.

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in San Jose; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in California are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

The business lists hours on 5 days of the week. Typical hours are 11 amโ€“9 pm. Note that it does not open on Monday, Tuesday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (408) 490-4653. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, jackiesplacesj.com.

San Jose is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and San Jose follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

First time at Jackieโ€™s Place and it did not disappoint! The minute we walked in it had such a welcoming environment. Ordering food was also quick and seamless since we just had to place our order on our phones. Everything was very convenient and well structured. The parking lot is also very spacious and we had no issues finding a open spot. The food was well seasoned and the cornbread was to die for. We bought some bread pudding and peach cobbler on our way out. Definitely coming back here if we ever crave soul food again!

Delicious food. We got pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw side, ribs with potato salad and corn bread, wings, and kids fried chicken with corn bread and mac n cheese. Everything was delicious except the wings and mac n cheese. Our toddler loved the fried chicken. Service is good, staff is friendly, place is nice and clean. We came on a Saturday for lunch when they opened. Weโ€™ve come another time and parking can be tough because the parking lot is small/ compact and fills up quickly. You can order thru your phone using the QR code at your table, or go tot hr front and order with a person. It does get busy and easily gets loud inside, but itโ€™s a nice lively atmosphere. We checked out the outside space which was quieter and also very clean.

This review is long overdue. I have come to Jackie's Place a number of times for dinner for the family and for dinner parties. Their fried chicken is great as it's seasoned and fried perfectly. But for our family and friends it's the fried fish that people just can't stop eating. We have also had their ribs which were very good. We also got an order of the oxtails and they were good as well. We have also tried all of the sides and one of my favorites was the potato salad and the rice and gravy. Also, you are missing out if you don't try their peach cobbler. The staff has been consistently warm, personable and attentive on every visit. If you need a taste of some good soul food you need to go to Jackie's Place!

My wife and I visited Jackieโ€™s Place on North First Street in San Jose for the first time today. Arriving around 11:45 AM, we found ample parking and were immediately greeted by the wonderful aroma of the smoker working out back. We were seated quickly by a polite gentleman who kindly explained the ordering process to us newcomers. The food arrived after a reasonable wait. I ordered the brisket with two sides, which was outstandingโ€”tender, delicious, and perfectly smoked. My wife chose the smothered chicken with three sides. While the chicken itself was tender and well-seasoned, the gravy wasn't quite to my personal taste, though my wife thoroughly enjoyed it. The fries, I felt, were tasty but were more than we needed because the portions were adequate. The sides were a major highlight. The collard greens were incredibly well-seasoned and easily on par with my grandmotherโ€™s cooking. The cole slaw had a touch of spice, probably from added pepper that gave it a great kick, and the brisket chili beans were tasty, even if not quite as memorable as the greens. The only downsides were the lack of check-ins and we did not see a salad option on the menu. While the initial greeting was ex

On a chill Tuesday afternoon. My partner and I were seeking some delicious soul food. After a lot of recommendations I knew I had to visit Jackieโ€™s Place. Unfortunately, I left a bit underwhelmed. The vibe of this place was great and welcoming, but the food left me expecting more. We ordered a plate with 2 meats and 2 sides as well as the oxtail stew. We got the pork rib as well as the beef brisket for meats, then the mac and cheese and collard greens for sides. Between the meats the pork rib was significantly better than the brisket. The brisket was just dry and tough, but had a solid flavor. At least the pork rib was juicy and had a good bite, but Iโ€™ve had better. The mac and cheese was good, but the collard greens were pretty bitter. We also tried a piece of the breaded fish and that was probably the best part of the whole meal. The oxtails were good but a touch too salty, but they were also really rich. I fear this restaurant really let me down, but at least everyone there was really nice.
